So many school have policies regarding nuts, I can't believe, they even offer the product. I'm glad they're not at my daughter's school for this very serious reason. I'm not impressed by all the chest thumping of reduced fat. Fat is an essential macro-nutrient--one of only two, the other being protein. I'd be much more impressed if they said what kinds of fats they were using, and if those included lots of healthy fats such as olive oil, coconut oil, avocado. The hysteria over fat really needs to end, and we should be focusing more energy on eliminating unhealthy carbs from school food.Ed Bruskehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12217850970833353800noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-456456802374157515.post-5593958022714761942010-06-18T12:40:52.442-04:002010-06-18T12:40:52.442-04:00Part of the problem is the parents...I have had so...Part of the problem is the parents...I have had some tell me that why should their kids suffer since theirs are not obese or have any kind of a health problem. This attitude is our problem. First IT'S NOT HEALTHY!!!!! I am a personal chef and sub at the local school district in the nutrition (?) dept. As an employee I can eat free each day as do the other employees. I take my lunch daily because I won't eat that stuff. If you could smell that meat, the sausage turns my stomach anyway it's all about the money..it has nothing to do with what's good for the kids. It's about turning a profit. That so called salsa that you showed is commodity picante or salsa...it all looks the same..you would be so surprised to see what the government sends the schools to use..whether they need it or not and alot of it gets thrown away...our tax dollars at work. Parents NEED to get involved. Need to learn about nutrition. Need to care what their kids are eating. Need to learn about the rise in juvenile diabetes and what that means for their children. Need to learn about the rise in juvenile cancer. NEED TO GET INVOLVED!!!!!!!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-456456802374157515.post-82312936875130698972010-06-18T09:55:54.602-04:002010-06-18T09:55:54.602-04:00Oh yeah, this is a last week of school lunch.

In I believe it was Wallace last week, another student had to help a choking student when no adult noticed the child choking on his food. I believe the lunch is in serious need of being changed. In the case of very young students I would just think foods that are known to be a choking hazard (carrots, grapes, popcorn, hot dogs) be served in a way to limit the risks of choking.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-456456802374157515.post-76929957767426953602010-06-13T09:17:10.338-04:002010-06-13T09:17:10.338-04:00No worries Shannon. Also, something that occurred to me recently is this thought: More families eat out nowadays, and when families eat out, each individual can get whatever they want and everybody's happy, right? Well when families eat at home, Mom (or Dad) makes one main dish, and a few side dishes, and everybody has to eat what was prepared. Each person doesn't get to choose their favorites from a menu. And if Mom or Dad makes only what their kids will like then it just reinforces the pickiness, I think.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-456456802374157515.post-84289664430795155752010-06-10T16:27:31.747-04:002010-06-10T16:27:31.747-04:00My daughter likes her broccoli steamed and plain. ...My daughter likes her broccoli steamed and plain.
